In this three part series, one of Britainís leading Nelson scholars, Colin White, follows the footsteps of Horatio Nelson in his native Britain, to explore the influences which shaped his character and formed his genius.

Episode 1 visits Norfolk, the birthplace of Nelson, and one of the two most significant regions of the country for him. This program tells of how the young Nelson would visit the local seaport and hear exciting reports of his uncleís sea adventures, and how he would later join his uncle at the age of 12 on the battleship HMS Raisonable.

Episode 2 follows Nelsonís naval career aboard the HMS Victory, that went from strength to strength with each victory that he won. The program goes on to explore the problems that plagued his private life and his first marriage, and tells of how he would meet the great love of his life, Emma Hamilton.

Episode 3 presents a rare on-board tour of the HMS Victory, showing the Admiralty boardroom where the plans for the Battle of Trafalgar were made. Colin White describes the last few hours of Nelsonís life on the Victory before he was fatally wounded.

Informative and entertaining, this is one of the most comprehensive accounts of the life and times of Britainís greatest naval hero.
