Set in Paris before and during the French Revolution, this is Umberto Giordano's most passionate and successful opera. In this Royal Opera production, Placido Domingo stars in the title role as the idealistic poet of the French Revolution and Maddalena, the object of Chenier's adoration, is portrayed by the Bulgarian soprano Anna Tomowa-Sintow. Conducted by Julius Rudel.
